When the Lower esophageal sphincter (LES) is weakly closed, powerful stomach enzymes are able to pass through the esophagus upwards. This causes a burning sensation in the chest and throat. In some cases, the stomach fluids reach the top of your throat, causing the victim to experience sour, acidic taste. The symptoms may worsen when lying or bending over. Length of symptoms may vary in time from few minutes to hours.
Some uncommon symptoms include: - Persistent hiccups - Pain in neck and shoulder - Difficulty swallowing - Cold sweats, dizziness, shortness of breath |
